The Bishop’s School Sesquicentennial celebration, Everest Base Camp expedition started off extremely smoothly. With an early 5:00 am wake up call, the entire team rallied after a hectic first day in Katmandu to reach the airport at 6:30 in the morning. With a bit of waiting time in the security lounge and an even longer waiting time on the shuttle to the airplane(as the driver decided to go for a walk just as we boarded the shuttle), the entire team took off from Katmandu on a 16 seater, Twin Otter propeller plane and touched down in Lukla at 9:00 am. As we began trekking to Phakding, two hours into the trek, the sky grew overcast and we got caught in a passing mountain shower. With each twist and turn of the trail bringing even a more beautiful site, the team had a fantastic day. On reaching Phakding, the gang was extremely eager to walk down to the flowing Doodk Khosi River to test how cold the water is. An early dinner and a warm bed proved just too inviting and the entire team was fast asleep by 20:00hrs.
