The Home Stretch – Everest Base Camp

Heading to Gorakshep
Team at Everest Base Camp

Pictures from EBC

The final step towards Everest Base Camp started at 6:30am when we started walking. It began with a gradual walk, for about three hours then a twenty minute steep climb landed us in Gorakshep. Soon we had a hot cup of tea followed by brunch consisting of grilled Nak cheese sandwiches. We then started our final walk to glory. This was by far the most exerting day. Even though it was only a Two kilometer walk, it was the most tiring and grueling walk of the entire trek. We reached The Everest Base Camp and got to walk on the actual Khumbu Glacier at 1:35pm. When The Bishop’s School banner of the 150 years flag was hung up, some of us emotionally broke down while others could not contain our joy. What was most inspiring was seeing our Headmaster make his way from Gorakshep to EBC in record time, just to be with us and hoist the school colours. All in all, it was the best day of our lives.
