Everest Base Camp!!!
Team at Everest Base Camp
Early in the morning, the sun shining heavily on our backs, we made our way to Gorakshep – the village closest to the Everest Base Camp. Finally the day had dawned. We were at Gorakshep in three hours. From there on, after a quick brunch, the trek to EBC began.
Heading towards Gorakshep – the last tea houses in EBC
It was a twisted and winding path, through eroded hills, moraine and around glacial melts. On our way, we heard multiple avalanches in the misty mountains right across the Khumbu glacier . Finally, after multiple paths in and out of the mountains, we got our first glimpse of our destination – Everest Base Camp. Suddenly, there was a spring in our step as we made our way from between iced pools and crevasses to the iconic spot from where Everest Base Camp begins. It was an overwhelming moment, for all of us. The view of Khumbu ice falls and the yellow tents scattered along the glacier was astounding. This was something all of us were looking forward to for the last week. Our initial excitement and euphoria gave way to an amazing sense of achievement as we made our way back to Gorakshep in light snowfall. At the end of the day, the tiny settlement of Gorakshep covered by snow looked straight out of a fairytale.
